Hug drug haul found in breakfast cereal shipment
French custom officials have seized a record 51 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in a shipment of breakfast cereal.

The haul is estimated to have a street value of over £3 million, the customs department said in a statement, and is the biggest  single seizure of the drug on French territory.
Customs officers at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris were checking cartons containing bags of cereal when they found them to be "unusually heavy".
Methamphetamine is a strong and highly addictive stimulant, popular for recreational use and to help workers stay alert and energetic during long and night shifts.
Users of the drug experience an intense rush, heightened attention and curbed appetite. Over time addicts often suffer anxiety, weight loss and tooth decay.

The drug has been popular in poorer Asian countries for many years, but is now thought to be gaining popularity in richer nations such as South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

They opened the bags and found crystals of the drug wrapped in aluminium foil in 40 of the 70 bags, which were being transported from Cameroon to Malaysia.

The drug has been popular in poorer Asian countries for many years, but is now thought to be gaining popularity in richer nations such as South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

The substance is sold in various forms in Asia including as a component of a local drug called yaba, which is extremely prevalent in southeast Asia. The drug is the most popular illegal substance in the region and can cost less than a fast food meal at Burger King.

Meanwhile, a Reuters investigation in July found west Africa was playing a "new and fast-growing role" in the global drug trade, "not just as a transit point for drugs but also as a producer of amphetamine-type stimulants".
Local and international officials told Reuters west African criminal groups are now producing and exporting hundreds of millions of dollars worth of methamphetamine every year, most of which is shipped to Asia.

The synthetic drug is derived from ephedrine or pseudoephedrine, two common medicines used to treat conditions like nasal decongestion and asthma. It can be manufactured with basic equipment and is extremely profitable. One kilo of meth costs just over £1000 to make in West Africa but sells for more than £100,000 in Japan.

Passport gates to ease travel for passengers from more countries

Passport gates to ease travel for passengers from more countries

Millions more people will be able to use ePassport gates as they arrive in the UK, under plans announced in the Budget on 29 October 2018.
The ePassport gates expansion will provide an automated route through the border for an estimated additional 6 million international travellers arriving in the UK every year. The move is the next step in the government’s continuing programme of work to roll out digital technology at the border and is expected to significantly improve the flow of passengers at busy airports such as Heathrow.

ePassport gates, which are currently available for British and EU nationals, provide a faster route through the border as they allow eligible passengers to be processed quickly and securely. All passengers are automatically checked against Border Force systems and watchlists. The technology also allows Border Force officers to focus on other priority work such as identifying potential victims of trafficking.

Immigration Minister Caroline Nokes said:

We want to encourage people who boost our economy through tourism and business to travel to the UK, while at the same time maintaining border security. Expanding the number of nationalities eligible to use ePassport gates supports this aim.

Increasing the use of digital technology is part of our ambitious programme to improve the passenger experience and meet the challenge of increased passenger numbers.

ePassport gates use facial recognition technology to compare the passenger’s face to the digital image recorded in their passport. The system is monitored by Border Force officers and anyone rejected by the gates will be sent to an alternative channel to have their passport checked.

There are now 259 ePassport gates in operation at 14 ports around the UK and juxtaposed control locations. The gates can be used by those aged 18 and over, and who are travelling using a biometric or ‘chipped’ passport. Those aged 12 to 17 years old, and who are accompanied by an adult, are also able to use them.

Responsibilities of the Air Force Job

Duties of Air Force Security Forces
The Security Force's main goal is to keep the people, planes, base, weapons (even nuclear), and the surrounding area safe from any threat, including the intrusion by unauthorized people. The largest career field in the Air Force, the Security Forces stay busy with their primary duties and still are the base's first response to disasters — either natural or man-made,

Security force members are essentially the military police within the Air Force and the branch's first line of defense. They keep the peace at all Air Force bases and installationsaround the world. This career field's duties include such things as securing the perimeter of a base, to handling security dogs as the base's law enforcement force.

This is a career field that could lead to the civilian job of police officer, or other security personnel.

The use of deadly force to protect Air Force personnel and resources are among the serious responsibilities of security forces. They may be called upon to protect nuclear or conventional weapons, or protect Air Force One from hostile forces. Their duties also call for performing life-saving procedures, like CPR, when acting as first-responders to an accident or disaster situation.

Security forces personnel are also involved with the planning to implement security policies and procedures. They may be called upon to provide oversight and guidance or assistance to commanders and supervise and train other security forces personnel. This might include inspecting and evaluating the other personnel and analyzing any resulting reports or statistics.

Military Working Dog Teams

Another key responsibility of Air Force security forces is the training and use of military working dog teams as part of their daily operations. They're responsible for ensuring the health and welfare of the dogs, and training the dogs in such things as intruder control and hold training, as well as keeping training records.

Qualifications for Air Force Security Forces

Security force personnel need normal color vision, and can't have any history of personality disorder. They must never have been convicted by a general, special, or summary courts-martial, or non-judicial punishment for drug offenses, or other criminal conduct.

Free Guide: How to Get a Better Job

We'll email you a step-by-step plan to start earning more.

ONE-TAP SUBSCRIBE

In order to enter the security forces, recruits need to be able to qualify for secret security clearance and to bear arms under Air Force regulations. They should be able to speak distinctly and achieve a general score of 33 or better on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) exam.

Completion of high school with courses in government, behavioral science, computer, and communicative skills is useful for recruits considering the security forces as their Air Force job.

Training for Air Force Security Forces

All applicants will undergo training at the Air Force security forces academy at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. During the 65-day course, students will learn basic military police functions, including missile security, convoy actions, capture and recovery of nuclear weapons, law enforcement and directing traffic. The course also teaches nonlethal tactics, such as using pepper spray and pressure points on a body.

They'll also learn anti-terrorism and law enforcement techniques, and how to be effective in air base defense, armament and equipment, information security and other related skills.

Advanced Security Forces Training

Advanced training within the security forces can lead to becoming an Air Force counter-sniper. For example, the 506th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron's Close Precision Engagement Team (CEPT), or 'Tiger Team,' are highly trained shooter/spotter pairs who perform sniper missions, counter-sniper, perimeter security, and reconnaissance missions to defend U.S. Air Bases at home and around the world.

Border Patrol checkpoint to get canopy, lane

Border Patrol checkpoint

When finished in mid-January, the new facility will have a 65-foot-long canopy covering two inspection lanes - a substantial improvement over the one lane, uncovered facility that has been in place for years, said Border Patrol spokesman Steven Passement.
Border Patrol's checkpoint north of Sierra Vista on Arizona 90 is being upgraded in a $870,000 project that will make it the second semi-permanent checkpoint in the state.
The facility will be the second "interim" checkpoint in the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector. The first was completed in March 2010 at Interstate 19 north of Tubac in a $1.5 million project. A third interim checkpoint is scheduled to be 1lbuilt next year on Arizona 85 south of Gila Bend, Passement said.
There are 11 total checkpoints in the Tucson Sector, which stretches from New Mexico to Yuma County. But Arizona is the only state along the U.S.-Mexico border without permanent checkpoints. That's because a long-standing congressional requirement prohibiting stationary checkpoints
There are 11 total checkpoints in the Tucson Sector, which stretches from New Mexico to Yuma County. But Arizona is the only state along the U.S.-Mexico border without permanent checkpoints. That's because a long-standing congressional requirement prohibiting stationary checkpoints
many border-area residents question why the Border Patrol is patrolling so far north of the international line. "Patrol the border at the border" is a popular mantra in the borderlands.
The Arizona 90 checkpoint is about 30 miles north of the border. The I-19 checkpoint sits about 25 miles north of the border.
During the three-month construction period, the Border Patrol will not be operating the checkpoint on Arizona 90. It's located at milepost 304 just a few miles north of the intersection with Arizona 82. But agents will continue to patrol the area, Passement said.
The canopy structure going up there will look like a smaller version of the overhang at the I-19 checkpoint, which measures 105-by-115-foot. The I-19 structure is attached to a series of thick steel beams and has low concrete walls on both sides of the northbound lanes.

The company that built the I-19 checkpoint - MRM Construction of Phoenix - is handling construction at Arizona 90.
The Border Patrol has yet to hear any complaints about the new checkpoint going up on Arizona 90, Passement said. That might be because it's not close to as many residential areas as the I-19 facility. The tiny community of Whetstone is a few miles south of the Arizona 90 checkpoint, but Huachuca City is 8 miles south and Sierra Vista is 12 miles south

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Almost 10,000 police officers have taken second jobs, as pay falls 18% in real terms

The Police Federation of England Wales conducted a survey of 27,000 police officers and called the results "grim reading".

Nearly 10,000 police officers have taken up a second job in the past year, with the number coming amid warnings that officers’ pay fell 18% in real terms.

The Police Federation of England Wales conducted a survey of 27,000 police officers and called the results “grim reading”.
Police officers are permitted to take on a second job outside of their working hours with approval from their force.

We know officers are struggling and some have had to resort to food vouchers and other welfare schemes. This clearly cannot be right or acceptable that those employed to keep the public safe cannot make ends meet or put food on tables for their families.

The survey additionally found that nearly half – 44.8% – worried about their finances nearly every day.
Similarly, with some officers due to retire and others looking to leave, secondary employment can help build confidence and experience in a new industry. Unlike the armed forces, those leaving the police prior to retirement are provided with virtually no support when they leave.

Jobs often include taxi driving, photography, gardening, plumbing and beauty therapy

me 18 miles from the U.S.–Mexico border—we are looking for “sign.” That’s Border Patrol–speak for physical evidence of human disturbance in the crumbling West Texas dirt. In this instance, the sign is three sets of footprints. “Two prints made by boots, and the third looks like cheese graters,”
This is protocol: Multiple agents assemble at different points along a line of footprints and leapfrog one another until they intercept the path of the prints’ owner. Sometimes, the markings are nothing more than those of local residents. Other times,
Two other agents follow the prints behind a line of barbed-wire fence several yards from the rest-stop bathrooms. Moments later, a voice crackles over Martinez’s radio: “We got them.”
Martinez and I follow behind them, ambling to the Border Patrol SUVs parked at the rest-stop pull-off. Two of the men are shirtless; one’s ribs jut impressions through his sun-scorched skin as clear as his footprints in the dust.
The Van Horn Station, where Martinez works, is just one of more than 70 along the nearly 2,000 miles of the U.S.–Mexico border. The vast swath of land is divided into nine sectors, each made up of several patrol stations, checkpoints, and monitoring

Fifty years ago, Dubai International Airport was nothing but desert.

Fifty years ago, Dubai International Airport was nothing but desert. Today, it’s a major modern transportation hub which sits within one direct flight of 90% of the world’s population. It also still sits in a desert and faces unique problems because of that. In Ultimate Airport Dubai, you get a fascinating look behind the scenes of this amazing airport and I highly recommend it.
These jobs include managing air traffic, managing the movement of cargo and luggage, customer handling, aircraft maintenance, and the construction of a brand new terminal. See, this airport, already the largest building on earth by floor space (360 football fields in size), is too small to meet Dubai’s ambitious plans for the future, so they are expanding it.
How much are they expanding it? Right now, the airport handles 340,000 flights a year, carrying 57 million passengers and 2 million tons of cargo... making it the third busiest airport in the world. They want to add another 15 million passengers a year. To that end, they’ve hired 18,000 construction workers to build the new terminal. This new terminal will then add to the 60,000 employees who already work at the airport. Interestingly, almost every single employee you see is an ex-pat, and the reason is that over 80% of the people who live in Dubai are ex-pats.
In fact, the people are really interesting and quickly make you interested in them. For example, you have the construction manager who is run ragged and must navigate a series of subcontractors who are much less dedicated than he is. You wonder if he will ever pull off his Herculean task. You have the engineering crew who must tear these planes apart and reassemble them. You have the cargo manager for whom every landing is a race against the clock as he tracks missing bags, the bags of missing passengers, missing cargo and other cargo that has gone wrong in some manner. All the while, he risks costing a plane its takeoff slot.
The story of this airport is a fascinating topic. It is a hidden world you knew nothing about before you set out to watch the show and it is an amazing world... a world of high engineering, human error, rules and the bending of rules, all taking place in this hidden world wrapped in the enigma of being set in Dubai with all of its idiosyncrasies and mysteries. So much of what we think we know about the Middle East isn't true here, but so much also is. And seeing it all take place amidst such intense opulence is just fascinating.

The new policy could flood the immigration courts, already suffering severe backlogs, and create new detention space shortages for federal agencies that even now have been forced to release many undocumented immigrants until their cases can be heard. Mr. Sessions said he has dispatched 35 additional prosecutors and 18 immigration judges to the Southwest border region to help handle expanding caseloads.
administration announced Monday that it is dramatically stepping up prosecutions of those who illegally cross the Southwest border, ramping up a “zero tolerance” policy intended to deter new migrants with the threat of jail sentences and separating immigrant children from their parents.

“If you are smuggling a child then we will prosecute you, and that child will be separated from you as required by law,” Mr. Sessions said at a law enforcement conference in Scottsdale, Ariz. “If you don’t like that, then don’t smuggle children over our border.”
The new policy strikes squarely at parents who have traveled with their children, some apparently with the expectation that they would face shorter periods of detention while their cases were heard.
A similar zero-tolerance policy was attempted in 2005 in parts of Texas and Arizona under the George W. Bush administration, which ordered criminal prosecutions of immigrants in those areas who entered the country illegally. The policy lasted into the Obama administration before it was scaled back.

Last month, nearly 10,000 people traveling in families were apprehended at the border, and almost 50,000 have been arrested since October, the start of the fiscal year.

The Trump administration already had hinted that a policy of separating migrant children from their parents was under consideration as a means of deterrence.
Officials have insisted no such policy is in place, though about 700 children, including 100 children four years old and younger,
The adult immigrants would be sent to detention centers to await trial. If convicted, they would be imprisoned for the duration of their sentences, after which time they could be returned to their countries of origin. First-time illegal entry is a misdemeanor that carries up to a six-month prison sentence. Repeat entry constitutes a felony and carries a penalty of up to two years imprisonment.

The new Australian Border Force have spiffy new military-style uniforms and are surrounded by thousands of new signs across the country’s airports, sea ports and detention centres.
Australia’s border protection unit has cost the government about $20 million. According to Fairfax Media, $6.3 million was spent on new uniforms, name badges and safety helmets for 4500 border officials. An additional $3.5 million was spent on marketing collateral, including signage on 300 vehicles, boats, helicopters and planes. Even date stamps had to be replaced.

Sheriff Fears Texas Gov. Perry's Anti-Illegal Immigration

The border city of Juarez has been racked by violent drug related crime recently and has quickly become one of the most dangerous cities in the world to live. As drug cartels have been fighting over ever lucrative drug corridors along the United States border, the murder rate in Juarez has risen to 173 slayings for every 100,000 residents. President Felipe Calderon's strategy of sending 7000 troops to Juarez has not mitigated the situation. With a population of 1.3 million, 2,600 died in drug-related violence last year and 500 so far this year, including two Americans who worked for the U.S. Consulate last weekend as they returned from a children's party.

Yet El Paso, Texas manages to come out on top as the safest large city in the United States – a distinction due in no small part to the trust law enforcement authorities in El Paso County have built between themselves and the largely Mexican immigrant community, said Sheriff Richard Wiles.

Many governors and other state and local officials who want strict enforcement on immigration believe that the federal government has failed to control illegal immigration, and that states must take the matter into their own hands.

There are cities in this state that have made decisions that they're going to be havens for those that are in conflict with federal immigration laws or state laws, and we're going to prohibit that," Perry said. "We'll have a good and open discussion about what we're going to prohibit."

Wiles says if his officers, and other local law enforcement authorities, are required to play a large role in cracking down on illegal immigrants, it would mean local and state officers possibly making judgment calls on complex immigration issues that they are ill-prepared to handle.

The process of booking someone in our local jail is costly,” he said. “Rooming them is costly, prosecuting them is costly, providing them with a local defender is costly. Why should the citizens of El Paso have to pay more for a service that is the issue of the federal government.”

In Houston, Parker said her problem with Arizona-style laws is that it gives too much discretion to officers on the street in determining who might be here legally and who isn't. Parker said 20 percent of her city's population wasn't born in America, and that she wasn't just referring to Hispanics born elsewhere.
His officers already contact immigration agents when they come across someone arrested for a crime who turns out to be in the country illegally, Wiles said, an approach that helps to ensure that people who are a threat to public safety do not go back out on the street, and eventually get deported.
Riddle, of suburban Houston, has long been one of the loudest anti-illegal immigration voices in the Capitol. She found Perry's prioritizing validating.

"This is the United States of America. Not the United States of Luby's," said Riddle, referring to a popular cafeteria-style Texas restaurant chain. "We cannot just pick and choose the laws that we want to enforce. We cannot pick and choose the laws we want to respect."

Border Crackdown Fuels Smuggle current new report..

SAN DIEGO —  Toughened U.S. border enforcement has prompted substantially more illegal immigrants to hire smugglers to help them cross over from Mexico _ and competition among sophisticated criminal networks for customers has spawned violence and sometimes death.
What was once a discretionary expense has now become a necessity," said Jorge Santibanez, who oversaw the surveys while president of Tijuana-based El Colegio de la Frontera Norte.
The actual percentage of illegal immigrants who hire smugglers may be even higher than what the AP analysis found.
The actual percentage of illegal immigrants who hire smugglers may be even higher than what the AP analysis found. That's because people may hesitate to admit they hired someone to commit a crime. And the survey excludes those who made it across and remain in the United States _ a successful crossing often depends on the expertise of a hired guide.
For this story, the AP analyzed the responses of nearly 61,000 illegal immigrants interviewed by El Colegio de la Frontera Norte researchers over six years, ending in June 2005. The college surveys were conducted at airports, bus stations and crossings in eight Mexican border cities, from Tijuana on the Pacific to Matamoros, just south of Brownsville, Texas.
Bulmaro Arizmendez del Carpio, 22, was one of those caught by the Border Patrol. He decided to save the $1,600 fee and forsake a guide, then walked three days in triple-digit temperatures in early June before being arrested with 17 others outside Phoenix. After the first day he ran out of water and twice had to fill jugs with dirty water from cow tanks. His feet were covered with blisters.
